Censorship as Optimal Persuasion

چکیده
A sender designs a signal about the state of world to persuade receiver. Under standard assumptions, an optimal censors states on one side cutoff and reveals all other states. This result holds in continuous discrete environments with general monotone partitional signals. The optimally more information if she is biased, certain receiver's preferences, receiver easier persuade. We apply our results problem media censorship by government.

On Optimal Rules of Persuasion
A speaker wishes to persuade a listener to accept a certain request. The conditions under which the request is justified, from the listener’s point of view, depend on the values of two aspects. The values of the aspects are known only to the speaker and the listener can check the value of at most one. A mechanism specifies a set of messages that the speaker can send and a rule which determines ...
متن کاملOptimal Simple Strategies for Persuasion
Argument dialogues provide a principled way of structuring rational interactions between participants (be they human or machine), each arguing over the validity of certain claims, with each agent aiming for an outcome that achieves their dialogue goal (e.g., to persuade the other participant to accept their point of view [8], or to reach agreement on an action to perform [2]). Achievement of an...
متن کاملCosmic Censorship: As Strong As Ever
Spacetimes which have been considered counterexamples to strong cosmic censorship are revisited. We demonstrate the classical instability of the Cauchy horizon inside charged black holes embedded in de Sitter spacetime for all values of the physical parameters. The relevant modes that maintain the instability, in the regime which was previously considered stable, originate as outgoing modes nea...
متن کاملGrounded Semantics as Persuasion Dialogue
In the current work, we provide a formal Mackenzie-style persuasion dialogue for grounded semantics. We show that an argument is in the grounded extension iff the proponent is able to persuade a maximally sceptical opponent in the dialogue.
متن کاملCensorship Resistance as a Side-Effect
This position paper presents the following thought experiment: can we build communication protocols that (1) are sufficiently useful that they achieve widespread adoption as general-purpose communication mechanisms and (2) thwart censorship as a consequence of their design? We posit that a useful communication platform that is inherently resistant to traffic analysis, if widely adopted and used...
